Olympic Torch to pass through KL

There is something about the Olympics that somehow inspires me. Somehow, it unites people regardless of backgrounds. For the awe that it generates in me, one of many things I would like to do before I die is to attend an opening ceremony of the Olympics but I’m unsure when would that be. But I’m sure of one thing: I will be there to witness the torch relay for the XXIX Olympiad; the Olympic Torch will pass through Kuala Lumpur for only the second time in the history of the Olympics!

The first time such event occurred was back in 1964 when Tokyo became the first Asian city to host the Olympics. Then, the Torch left Bangkok for KL and later for Manila. Next year, Bangkok and KL stay in the list with two additional Southeast Asian cities: Jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City. For the two latter cities, it is all the more historic. It is the first time the Torch will visit Indonesia and Vietnam!

By May next year, 6 Southeast Asian cities had and will have experienced what it is like to witness the Torch. They are Yangon, Myanmar (1964), Bangkok, Thailand (1964, 2008), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2008), Manila, the Phillipines (1964, 1984, 1996), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1964, 2008) and Jakarta, Indonesia (2008).

Anyway, I hope to see Kuala Lumpur to finally host the Olympics in 2020!
