Flash mob in KL!

I’ve heard of flash mob before but I had never seen it, until today. The objective: to express displeasure against the mainstream media. Just by luck, Mr. Haris Ibrahim is running a cyber-campaign to boycott the mainstream paper. Coincidence?

Hmm….

In between Mr. Haris’ encouragement for a boycott, a stranger posted something about having a flash mob on Mr. Haris’ blog. Mr. Haris wasted no time to publicize it [1] and that was how I found out about the flash mob planned at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers.

And having little to do on that day, I decided to check it out.

At 15:00, the scene was typical of a Malaysian shopping complex. People moving around, doing their own business.

While the news possibly spread primarily through blogs, I was pleasantly surprised to spot a number of reporters waiting for the mob to come out. It reached the media!

In a country where freedom of assembly is suppressed, perhaps, it shouldn’t be surprising that a mere flash mob attracted several news agencies. As for me, I just want to populate Metblogs KL. =)

It didn’t take long before “they” arrived:

And among the crowd…

Wow. This started to look like a covert operation!

And then, a suspicious man walked across the concourse of Suria.

For some reason, I could hear the Mission Impossible theme in the background while a security personnel made his round.

The reporters were getting impatient and began looking for statements. Bah.

Lookey, lookey!

And out of the sudden, it began. Somebody shouted “Tear it! Tear it! This is for all the lies spewed by the liars!”

Okay, I made that up. But still, look at his expression!

The public that was clueless, stopped, dumb founded.

Security then rushed to the scene but by the time they were there, the participants were gone and all that was left was a filled trash can.

Fun!

But because the event was too sudden, — it was a flash mob after all — people there were still clueless of what the hell had actually happened there.
